Ligas Class Counsel Statement in Response to Tribune Article

The recent reporting on deaths and injuries to people with developmental disabilities reflects the tragic human cost of the State of Illinois’ failure to adequately invest in the community system. The promise of the Ligas Consent Decree is to provide people with developmental disabilities full and integrated lives in the community. Without a guarantee of basic safety, this promise cannot be realized.  If the State does not address the lack of funding and oversight that led to these problems, the Ligas litigation team will go back to federal court to obtain increased funding and new tools to monitor our clients in the community to ensure their safety and security.
