Give Today

Today, Equip for Equality is joining nonprofit organizations all over the world in celebrating #GivingTuesday–a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

We are asking you today to help us continue our mission of social justice and inclusion for all people with disabilities in Illinois by making a donation here. Your gifts will help people like Susan.

Susan has ADHD and PTSD. She has been in therapy for 10 years and consistently takes her medication. She chooses to work at companies that offer very flexible work schedules so she can arrive and leave when she needs to. She also chooses places that offer partial remote policies. Susan’s employer suddenly changed their policy and started to monitor key fobs and attendance through an app while mandating she comes into the office on three set days a week. If this wasn’t hard enough for Susan, her employer also moved her to a new location in the office that exacerbated her ADHD and PTSD due its loud and distracting environment. The changes led to frequent panic attacks during the workday and her leaving the office crying every day. Despite her boss being supportive, when she went to HR, she was told that the remote policy is the policy and the new work setup shouldn’t give her anxiety. When Susan called Equip for Equality for help, we reviewed her records and advised her about getting a proper doctor’s note. Susan took our self-advocacy advice and went back to HR armed with the knowledge she needed. With that knowledge, Susan was able to secure a reasonable accommodation of a private office and was allowed to bring a service animal. No one should have to choose between their livelihood and wellbeing! Thankfully, Susan no longer has to make that choice.

Please, help us help more people like Susan by making a donation today. And, help us spread the word about #GivingTuesday by sharing our social media posts on Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, and Threads!
