People with disabilities are more vulnerable to the impacts of COVID-19 as many have health complications, rely on school-based supports, live in group settings, or rely on care staff for support.
During the pandemic, our attorneys and staff are hard at work providing legal services and self-advocacy assistance remotely through phone lines, TTY, email, and teleconferences. We are reaching out to parents to help them understand their children’s special education rights during remote learning; advocating that people with disabilities in nursing homes are safe; creating materials about the rights of people with disabilities in the wake of COVID-19; monitoring people living in State facilities and community agencies to help ensure their safety; and working to ensure that representative payees are meeting their obligations to beneficiaries of Social Security. But we need your help to continue. When you donate to Equip for Equality during #GivingTuesdayNow, you help protect the rights of people with disabilities during the global pandemic and after Illinois recovers.
