About the Transportation Rights Project
It is important to understand that legal rights and requirements can be very different for different types of transportation (i.e. bus versus airplane travel; public versus private transportation). Some laws, like the Americans with Disabilities Act (the ADA), cover many types of transportation (buses, trains, taxicabs, shuttle service, etc.). Other laws are more limited, like the Air Carrier Access Act, which only covers airplane travel. However, if you live in a community with no public transportation at all, there are no laws that require transportation to be created for people with disabilities.
If you have any questions about transportation, you can contact Equip for Equality via our online contact form, via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, or (800) 537-2632 (voice) or (800) 610-2779 (TTY).
