About the Transportation Rights Project

Purpose: To provide information about the legal rights of people with all types of disabilities when using many types of transportation.

It is important to understand that legal rights and requirements can be very different for different types of transportation (i.e. bus versus airplane travel; public versus private transportation). Some laws, like the Americans with Disabilities Act (the ADA), cover many types of transportation (buses, trains, taxicabs, shuttle service, etc.). Other laws are more limited, like the Air Carrier Access Act, which only covers airplane travel. However, if you live in a community with no public transportation at all, there are no laws that require transportation to be created for people with disabilities.
