Illinois ADA Project's Inaugural Conference a Success

Last September 12, the Illinois ADA Project held a day-long conference, entitled Making the ADA Work for Business, which covered employment provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act. More than 50 participants from private corporations, nonprofit organizations and governmental agencies attended. Sponsors of the conference included AbilityLinks, Chicago Bar Association, Chicagoland Business Leadership Network, Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, Disability Works, Great Lakes ADA and Accessible IT Center, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Illinois Department of Human Services, Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, Mayor's Office of Workforce Development, National Employment Law Association and Equip for Equality.

The conference featured leading disability experts from across the country speaking on the critical topics in the employment field:

The conference evaluations were very positive. Plans are already under way for another ADA conference this fall. A CD-ROM with the conference materials and a great deal of other ADA resources and information is available for $50. Those interested in purchasing the CD-ROM or who have ADA-related questions should call the Illinois ADA Project at (877) ADA-3601 or (800) 610-2779 (TTY) or visit the project's website.

The Illinois ADA Project is funded by the Great Lakes ADA and Accessible IT Center to provide information about the Americans with Disabilities Act to individuals and private and public organizations throughout Illinois. Equip for Equality serves as the fiscal agent for the project.
