Equip for Equality is now offering free Disability Rights Workshops at our Chicago Office!

Location: Equip for Equality, 20 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 300 (between Washington & Madison, across the street from Millenium Park)

Registration Required! Contact The Training Institute at Equip for Equality: Trainings are free of charge but pre-registration is required! ADA Update: What Has The Supreme Court Said Lately?

After coming to this workshop, you'll be able to:

Explain how the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) has been and will be affected by US Supreme Court decisions
Discuss how this will affect your rights as a person with a disability

Monday, May 16, 2005, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Buses, Trains, Paratransit & Taxicabs: The Transportation Rights of People with Disabilities

After coming to this workshop, you'll be able to:

State when and how bus service must be accessible (easy to use) for people with disabilities
Determine if someone is eligible for (can get) Americans with Disabilities Act paratransit (door to door transportation) service
State when taxicab companies have to buy accessible (easy to get in and out of) vehicles
File a complaint if you have a problem getting the transportation you need

Wednesday, May 18, 2005, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. (Buses, Trains & Taxis from 1 - 3 PM and Paratransit Rights from 3:15 - 5:00 p.m.)

Balancing Independence and Protection: What Family Members Need to Know About Guardianship and Alternatives

After coming to this workshop, you'll be able to:

Identify the alternatives to guardianship
Explain the guardianship court process
Identify where to go for help and resources
Realize the importance of working with your family member with a disability to make sound decisions

Thursday, May 19, 2005, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

IDEA 2004: What has Changed in Special Education?

After coming to this workshop, you'll be able to:

Explain your child's legal right to a free and appropriate education
Recognize your right to actively participate in the process of making educational decisions for your child
Interact effectively with your child's school
Prepare for your child's Individualized Educational Program (IEP) meeting
Identify the legal options available to resolve a conflict with the school

Requesting an Accommodation at Work & College

After coming to this workshop, you'll be able to:

Recognize your rights at job interviews, when you are hired and on the job
Realize when to tell your employer about your disability
Recognize your rights as a college student with a disability
Ask for an accommodation (help on the job or in school)
